Our First Quarter Moon is in Leo this Monday

Our quarter Moon that occurs for us this month on Monday the 9th of May will be in the sign of Leo at 18°23’ of the sign. This quarter Moon is especially important for us as far as the first quarter lunar phases go because, having just experienced the first eclipse of eclipse season, the Sun will be very close to the north lunar node. There’s a lot of fixed sign energy going on here so whilst there may not be much change in the physical or material sense, we will be thinking of ways we can change in terms of ways we can be true to ourselves so that we can get comfortable belonging from a secure space of personal reason.
With the Moon in fixed fire sign, Leo, we may be thinking about our emotional landscapes and how we can go about better expressing our emotional needs and desires. With this in mind, the nature of Leo is all about forming connections with those around us or closest to us and we might find that there are always more fun, open and honest ways to go about doing this. What do we need in terms of emotional connection and where do are passions lie? What do we need to connect with creatively in order to inspire us and set our pleasure centres in motion? The Leo Moon will oppose Saturn in Aquarius
With the Leo Moon in opposition to Saturn in Aquarius, there may come a sense of loneliness with our strong desire to connect to others, but at the same time we should experience a sense of purpose in the knowledge that there is a higher order and we’re all in this together. For this reason, the laws of karma may become a focus to some of us at the time of this first quarter Moon and how the connections we form and the ways we go about this will be closely tied in with what has the potential to come back to us in both the near and more distant future.
Although there will be a need for creative expression, there should also be an understanding that expressions that are pre-thought out and are built on a solid structure of reference will serve us better in terms of substantiality and longevity when it comes to healing of any form or expected feedback.
The Moon will square the North Node
The Moon in a square aspect with the North Node will bring into focus for us our emotional needs versus the needs of humanity and perhaps even the ways our lives and the ways we are living them can make it difficult to find ways to meet our emotional needs. Perhaps there are some obstacles in the way and there really are some changes we can make to reach a greater understanding of where we can go from here. The square aspect between the Moon and the Sun tends to bring to the surface the tensions that were previously hidden within us on a personal level and especially those from within our relationships with others. Right now during this first quarter, the Sun will also be sitting next to the Moon’s North Node and these along with Uranus will form the crux of a T-Square when we’re not taking the Moon’s South Node into account. So there is a particular level of tension on the Sun at the North Node and therefore some pressures to seek validation from ourselves and perhaps even others in our identities going forwards.
The Sun will sextile Mars
The Sun in sextile to Mars is a lovely, flowing aspect which will add some of that extra passion and pizazz to the ways we deal with issues of identity during the coming first quarter Moon phase. We have here the deeper intuition of Pisces in which Mars resides and the determination of hard-working Taurus, so looking to incite that change will no doubt originate from a place of wisdom, strength and maturity. Remember the quarter Moon phases, both first and last are all about making necessary adjustments and changes that are needed to take us through to the next part of the cycle.
The Sun will conjoin Uranus
Uranus’ conjunction with the Sun (and hence a square to the Moon in Leo) will pose as a challenging signature a the first quarter Moon, because the Moon in a square aspect to Uranus completely foregoes the Leo Moon’s desire for connection and warmth in bringing a tendency for detachment and avoidance of emotional issues. This could however, support many changes and some of these may just turn out to be unexpected or quite spontaneous in nature. With the Moon so well aspected here, it will be no surprise if there are impulsive actions borne from an unconscious desire to escape the humdrum of everyday life.
Mercury will Station Retrograde in Two Days
All of this occurs just two days before Mercury is set to turn retrograde in the sign of Gemini, so by now we may have already begun to experience the effects of the retrograde. Some of these may be seen in the slowing down of all things Mercury represents such as diversity of home research topics and general cognitive processes. There could perhaps be some extra introversion with less direct communications at this time too.
