Locational Astrology – Romance and the Pursuit of Pleasure

Edited by Gemma

We’re all born with a natal chart containing aspects with planets in our houses and these energies are carried with us throughout our lives as we learn to adapt to them and harness their difficulties. However, when moving from one location to another, most especially over a long distance, a whole new set of changes can occur, the reasons for which can be given in locational astrology.

Location is important when calculating the natal chart, as our main angles and house positions are closely linked to our place on Earth. In our new residence these change and the planets begin to take on new roles in different areas of our lives, as indicated by the houses they now fall into. Venus is one such planet and we can look more closely at Venus’ role in the relocation chart for some insight into potential romances and pleasures in life in our new area. On the flip side, Venus can indicate boredom or laziness for some, especially if the native is hungry for more challenging experiences or already has some trouble with self-motivation.
Let’s have a closer look at some of Venus’ associations in the relocation chart and how we can interpret them.

Venus on the Asc

Here your physical appearance may come into focus for you, seeming more important and you may take up more hobbies that are both fun and have a way of improving your appearance or give you that attractive glow. The harmony you experience in your surroundings also becomes more important, as you consciously work on balance and peace between yourself and others.

Venus on the Dsc

Here, your natural grace and charm when you’re in social situations will increase and you may notice you tend to have a pleasant effect on the moods of those around you. You may create a softer or more leisurely daily routine and be kinder to yourself. You may also find you attract or are attracted to the types of partners who are aesthetically pleasing or artistic.

Venus on the MC

Here you may find it easier to gain success and public recognition and you may feel more inclined to seek it. This is a good place for growing careers in which aesthetics is important or the value of mediation and peace between others in the public sphere. Having a luxurious lifestyle may also become more important and you may even become well-known for this.

Venus on the IC

Here, feeling at peace with your childhood and your roots becomes crucial for you as you either want to relive your younger years or work to heal any trauma that resulted from them. Identifying with your family history and where you came also comes into focus. You may find you want to improve your home both aesthetically and as a nurturing, comforting environment.

Venus with Mars

Venus areas emphasised with Mars can pose problems as the energies here can lead to hedonism, especially in love or the context of sexual desire. Romantic encounters may not necessarily always lead to long term relationships and may even be pursued for the purpose of experience alone. Polarities between masculine and feminine types can also become heightened.

Venus with Jupiter

Here you’re likely to live more indulgently as both financial matters and social affairs are likely to treat you well. You may find comfort in meeting with a variety of people from different backgrounds who are socially charming, graceful and wise. This may be a little too self-indulgent an area for those who are seeking a greater challenge in life.

Venus with Saturn

Here, you may have greater self-control so it’s a good place to kick bad habits or begin
new routines that are tough. Arts that require dedication or arts on strong materials such as wood, glass or metal are supported here. Self confidence can drop, especially in relationships and this can lower the heart’s openness whilst increasing levels of commitment.

Venus with Uranus

This area should be avoided if you’re looking for long term romance and commitment, because many unexpected things can occur in romance when Venus and Uranus come together. There are greater chances for unconventional relationships and eccentric or nonconformist types coming and going on the social scene and fighting for humanitarian causes is often supported.

Venus with Neptune

Here, romantic idealism intensifies and while you may yearn for an encompassing spiritual union, the tendency to smooth over potential problems in focussing on desirable aspects only can land you in hot water. Soul mate unions are more likely, but sometimes come at a cost of losing sight of self-worth. Artistic sensitivity is very much heightened here, too.

Venus with Pluto

Here, the emotions you encounter leading to romance, sex and passion are intensified whilst any superficial friendships or relationships are given much less attention. This can become difficult to manage and may require you to accept levels of vulnerability and honesty you never have before. There can also be many changes in both social and financial matters here.
