The Astrology of May 2022
Edited by Gemma
Eclipse season is now well underway so there a many changes afoot. May is definitely looking to be a month of shifts and turns, so let’s make the most of this cycle of fresh energies. Read on to find out what’s coming up.
The month begins with Venus’ entry into Aries on the 2nd of May, followed by Jupiter’s sextile to Pluto on the 3rd. Then we have Mercury’s second retrograde of the year and Jupiter’s Aries ingress both on the 10th. Jupiter will semi-square Uranus on the 11th and Ceres will then enter Cancer on the 15th. Our wonderful Total Eclipse in Scorpio will then fall on the 16th, followed by the Sun’s ingress into Gemini on the 21st. Mars will enter Aries on the 24th before Venus leaves Aries for Taurus on the 28th and the month will finish with a New Moon in Gemini on the 30th.
Venus enters Aries - 2nd
When Venus enters Aries on the 2nd, it’s now time to start being expressive in love and extrovert with our artistic flair. Any type of art or expression can also become a therapeutic catharsis for us during this transit, as Aries seeks to push forwards and outwards with the same raw and unfiltered passion that is at the source of our emotion. All the pain, love and fear is set free as the binds are stripped away so that the fire can have its dance once more, astrologically speaking. At this time, we may also have a tendency to spend a little more compulsively and our expressions of love are also a little more raw around the edges. The Moon conjoins Mercury in Jupiter.
Jupiter Sextiles Pluto - 3rd
The easy-flowing aspect between Jupiter and Pluto is empowering yet mild in energy. This will offer doors to valuable insight in realms headed by the personal houses both Jupiter and Pluto fall into for everybody. Here, much-needed changes can be made with confidence. This is especially true with the Sun in conjunction with Uranus on the very same day.
Mercury Retrograde - 10th
Mercury turns retrograde at 4°51 Gemini and will remain retrograde for just over 3 weeks until the 3rd of June. The square aspect between Mercury and the Moon in Virgo will add some emotional tension to the retrograde at an unconscious level and we may feel the need to learn about the topics close to our hearts, even is at the expense of others.
Jupiter enters Aries - 11th
Jupiter will then enter Aries and will be in his own triplicity. While he was strong in Pisces, he will be in his element here in a much more energetic sense. Here we’ll experience his exploratory nature in a big way outside of ourselves as opposed to in our hearts and imaginations. Jupiter’s contribution will switch to giving out as much as he puts in.
Jupiter semi-squares Uranus - 11th
This aspect can bring us sparks of creative energy and itchy feet to do something new and exciting. Brilliant ideas or plain good luck may come to us now in support of how we’re going to reach our physical and material goals.
Ceres Enters Cancer - 15th
As Ceres moves through Cancer we’ll see a greater deal of nurturing amongst close-knit family and friends through the love of good food. As Ceres represents motherly love, she is super comfortable in the sign of Cancer. Crops, grains and the world of agriculture should receive a boost and thrive whilst Ceres is in Cancer.
Total Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio - 16th
This is a time to cultivate many changes in our lives to really take us through into our next phase. Along the Taurus – Scorpio axis, it’s about fulfilling our needs materially as individuals whilst remaining true to our deeper, more emotional selves down at a soul level. We remain in our hearts and compassionate for others whilst we do this, with Mars conjoining Neptune in Pisces, yet there’s still a high level of responsibility to uphold with Saturn squaring the Full Moon eclipse axis. Whilst creating a balance between these, Venus is next to Chiron on Aries now, so this can also be super cathartic and healing.
Sun enters Gemini - 21st
The Sun enters Gemini on the 21st of May and will enter right next to Mercury as he’s in retrograde. This could potentially highlight the problems of the retrograde until the Sun moves on past a few days later. Where is Gemini in your natal chart?
Mars enters Aries - 24th
When Mars enters Aries he will be in his own sign so now we can expect lots of action being taken, perhaps often spontaneously and maybe even a little impatience. At this time he joins the Moon, also at 00° Aries and with Jupiter, these three will sextile the Sun and Mercury. This is a favourable configuration for getting things moving that were previously feeling stuck and there may be a lot of behind-the-scenes redressing with Mercury retrograde in trine to Pluto again.
Venus enters Taurus - 28th
Venus is now in her own sign of Taurus where our planet of love and affection will now grow with a sense of patience, calm and serenity. Venus in Taurus stands for romance that is solid and steady. It’s also symbolic of luxury, comfort self-care and leisure time.
New Moon in Gemini - 30th
The New Moon will offer a mixed bag of themes to play out during the coming lunar cycle. We have Mars conjunct Jupiter in Aries, which is a real pocket rocket of energy yet isn’t quite aspected so this could be a bit of a loose cannon to watch out for. The Mercury retrograde will square Saturn too at this time, creating some tensions in connections and communications. This can also create some difficulties in our verbal expressions. Watch out for my article on this New Moon later in the month for a closer look at what will be happening around that time.
