Locational Astrology – The Sun, Moon and Mercury

Locational astrology is a technique astrologers use that can show us what kinds of changes might happen in our lives or how we may feel according to where we travel to, whether this is on holiday or a to a more permanent change of address.

The lines on a locational astrology map tell us at which locations a given planet will fall on one of the four angles in our natal chart (the Ascendant, Descendant, IC or MC), if it is set for that location. To set the chart with the new location, the same time and date is used and therefore the same map of planets in the heavens, but the location is set to the new place and this changes the house and angle positions. If you’d like to try this technique yourself, be sure to keep the time zone set to the original time zone where you were born!

Let’s have a little look at what the Sun, Moon and Mercury lines mean for us on the locational astrology map.

Sun on the Asc

Here, your identity and appearance will come into sharp focus and you may sample new identities before settling on one that makes you feel ‘seen’ and high in energy. People and children are attracted to your magnetic energy and you will do well in the performing arts or in careers where your charisma takes centre stage.

Sun on the Dsc

Here you’ll learn lots about yourself through interacting with others and you become the Sun person in your relationships. With clients and in other one-on-one relations, you’re compelled to take the lead. If comfortable with this, you help others see their potential. If uncomfortable, you may become demanding or overbearing.

Sun on the IC

In this area your roots and heritage will be of increased importance to you, as you derive a rewed sense of identity and purpose from them. Your ability to create a wonderfully loving home environment is what comes naturally to you here and you become more in touch with your innate sense of purpose in this lifetime.

Sun on the MC

This is an area in which you are most likely to become famous. Your view of life is focussed on your public image and on your career, while you also find it easy to assert your dominance and instruction to large groups of people. For this reason you will progress quicker in your career and may find public respect comes easy to you.

Moon on the Asc

On this line, you may become more personally entwined with the emotions and needs of the people around you as you intuitively sense the undercurrents of the surrounding atmosphere. You may be more outwardly nurturing, but the challenge here is to make decisions based on your own needs as opposed to those of others.

Moon on the Dsc

In this location, you connect with more people who embody the characteristics of the Moon. These people may seek emotional validation or support form you or you may seek those who you can emotionally support. This is good place for a career in roles where the therapeutic and healing modalities are expressed.

Moon on the IC

You may experience a deep longing to belong to a tribe here or at least seek more comfort and security in your traditional values, your roots and the people who come from these. This possibly arises from an instability or fear of loss of security and as a result you may also want to enter into seclusion or deep introspection.

Moon on the MC

Here, you’re more sensitive to the public’s opinions and you’re also more intuitively tuned into them. Your career persona means a lot to you and this may be the underlying cause for many of your actions, so you are likely to get on well with your superiors or elders. Your relationship with your mother may also deepen.

Mercury on the Asc

Here you’ll define yourself through a strong connection with your mindset and your mental abilities. You may also be known in your community as a good communicator or a good mediator between people. Your desire to begin new subjects academically and to learn about yourself and your environment will increase.

Mercury on the Dsc

On this line, your counselling skills with others will improve and young people are drawn to you. You are also mentally stimulated by your one-on-one interactions with others whilst craving intellectual conversations about the world around you. Communication will be enhanced for you in all your personal relationships.

Mercury on the IC

Here, you become more interested in researching your family tree or connecting with ways you can better understand your past, your culture or your place of birth. Home may become a place of continuous study and somewhere to socialise while keeping up to date with the goings on in the town. Your intuitions deepens too.

Mercury on the MC

You take on a cerebral approach to career and business affairs and you find you can be at the top of your game in most Mercurial jobs such as teaching, writing advertising or technology. Career growth can feel fun and stimulating for you, as even networking and connecting with others for work can be something of a light-hearted game.
