Transits and Difficult Times in Relationships

Edited by Gemma

All relationships can be difficult at times, even the ones we feel are the best relationships we’ve ever had. While we all know that this can be true regardless of who our most important relationships are with, whether these are family members, neighbours, romantic relationships or with our colleagues, there are times when we experience difficult events that can test them to the limit. These times can have us realise just how strong a relationship really is. Certain astrological transits might indicate such times. Some of the strongest relationships we’ve experienced might be tested, but if the difficulties of these transits are overcome by those involved, they will continue to grow stronger in their relationship after the associated events. Unfortunately, some relationships will struggle during difficult times, which means they will perhaps even come to an end.

Read on to find out more about the significance of some of these times, astrologically speaking.

The 7th house and The Descendant

The 7th house is our house of partnerships and one-to-one relationships with others. For this reason we can always look to here and to our descendant (our 7th house cusp) for the types of relationship we are likely to find ourselves in. Also, any transits through the 7th house or to the descendant will have some important effect on our one-to-one relationships, and most especially our romantic relationships.

The 5th House

The 5th house is our house of our budding romantic relationships, our creativity and our leisure time. Here, we will also see anything regarding our relationships with children, whether that's our own children, those of other members of our family or those we work with. Relationships of this house also include partners we are creative with, such as when in a musical duo or those in a collaborative team on an art project.

The Ascendant (Our 1st House Cusp)

Because our Ascendant is directly opposite our Descendant, this means it’s part of the same axis and is therefore the second half of the same coin interpretively speaking, holding great significance to our relationships. While our Ascendant is the angle of self, being all about our image in the way we project ourselves to the rest of the world, any transit to this point will also automatically form an aspect with the descendant because it's degree is directly opposite.

Saturn

When we have Saturn transits to any of the above places mentioned in our native charts, there tends to be a huge amount of responsibility required towards our relationships. This may present itself as relational and personal responsibilities towards other people, needing to help others out in some way or having to be there for them during difficult times.

What can sometimes be experienced as very difficult times with Saturn transits to our relationship sectors can actually be viewed necessary tests of strength and maturity for all of us. If strong enough, the relationship will survive and mature into a more comfortable and secure union once the Saturn transit is over.

Uranus

Uranus transits to those sectors mentioned can mark times in which unexpected events can happen within relationships that are much beyond our control. During this time, external events can sometimes force couples to have to spend time apart whereas otherwise they might not.

While Uranus transits can be difficult, sometimes the native experiencing one is simply going through a time in which they need a greater amount of space for genuine self-exploration than usual. They will often get by just fine with somebody who allows them such personal space and freedom.

Neptune

Neptune transits can become very confusing times in relationship as often the need to gain a sense of grounding or material security in a relationship feels out of reach or unattainable. There are no definitives during Neptune transits and this can create a sense of being lost.

Often, what's happening here is Neptune is asking us to focus on the romantic and spiritual aspects of the relationship as opposed to the practical details and boundaries we so often need. Neptune transits often mean we should let go and trust in the divine to get us where we need to go.

Pluto

Pluto transits can be quite powerful when it comes to relationships and can be extremely difficult because often so many changes can happen during them. After the transit, the relationship may seem nothing like it was before. Pluto transits can also increase intensity and competition within the relationships.

What Pluto is doing is uprooting parts of the relationship that really need to change. Anything hidden that wasn't for the best will be revealed at this time as changes are to be made. Couples who struggle to withstand the pressure of a Pluto relationships or aspects could find it very hard to carry on. Otherwise, huge transformations, although difficult at the time, will mean the relationship survives on much better and stronger than previously.
