Elemental Abundance Pairs in Natal Charts

Quite often when looking over the natal charts of many people (including clients, famous people’s charts and those of our friends and family), we notice a stark abundance of one or more of the elements, which are Earth, Fire, Air and Water.

An abundance of any particular element can say quite a lot about what the character of the native in question might be like. For example, someone with an abundance of the Earth element might be extra resourceful or super conservative as they move through the majority of their lives. If there happens to be an abundance of more than one element, there can be certain signatures and characteristics associated with these elements in combination, especially when we see pairings of elements that dominate a natal chart. There are six possible combinations of elemental pairs, out of the four elements. Here you will find some of the meanings.

Earth and Water

As I mentioned earlier, an abundance of the Earth element in a natal chart suggests someone who is resourceful and conservative in nature. Additionally, the native is likely to be practical, stable, reliable and possibly even a little materialistic. With an abundance of water to add, we will also usually see a high degree of sentimentality with increased emotion and intuition.

It is highly likely that combinations with lots of both Earth and Water will represent those of us in society who take family relationships quite seriously over other relationships and like to stick to certain groups they are both comfortable and familiar with. They may also have very strong moral values.

Earth and Fire

Because the Earth element in a natal chart also suggests a person who is generally stubborn and rooted into the ground, an addition of the Fire element in abundance might also suggest a fuelling of these Earthen qualities. In the same way that Mars, Jupiter and the Sun can fuel other planets, Fire can fuel the qualities of Earth.

With lots of Earth and Fire a native might be somewhat a little less adventurous than many of their Fire Sun counterparts and may even secretly antagonise people as their way of being playful. Still, they can often be both fun and loyal friends while taking on the positives of each of these elements, which are friends that can be hard to find.

Earth and Air

There are other characteristics of Earth signs that might become more pronounced when there is an abundance of both Earth and Air in a horoscope and these are the characteristics we might also see in Air. These are things such as being able to detach from emotions and lean on logical thought processes as a default mode of being.

With lots of both Air and Earth, a native might also be intellectual in a pragmatic way while having the ability to focus on many material details at once. They might have a good memory and a way of noticing lots of things and processing this information well. They are also likely rooted in a life of reality as opposed to fantasy.

Water and Fire

With lots of Water in a natal chart, a native is more than likely to be empathic and warm. With lots of Fire thrown in there too, the Water and Fire element might fuel one-another, causing a native to become both impressionable and potentially dramatic. They might also be prone to thrill seeking throughout life.

Emotions are likely very much heightened with this combination, as the Fire may give rise to greater heat within the Water of the natal chart. Fire can be quite an impatient and passionate element to begin with, so there could even become a higher chance of neuroticism. There might also be lots of spiritual insight and artistic talents.

Water and Air

Water within the natal chart can bring a unique ability for adaptability to the environment, which is likely increased with an abundance of Air there also. The Air element is already known to be the most adaptable of all the elements. This combination can be a real advantage, especially when going through tough experiences.

There might also be an ability to trick other people with a high degree of both intuition and social wits about them, but this isn’t always necessarily used as it depends on the moral principles of each individual. This combination might bring greater sentimentality towards wider groups due to the nature of Air in the chart.

Air and Fire

The Fire element lends so much creative passion and, with the loquaciousness of Air present too, natives might find they flit over the surface of a life of fun relationships with acquaintances on a daily basis. With lots of both elements present, there might be plenty of socialising, talking and desire to experience as many things as possible.

Natives are likely to be extremely open minded and accepting of other people’s differences, while confidence in their social skills is also likely very high. They may find they are very good at innovation and entrepreneurialism, while finding relative ease in gaining a good social following.
