The Six Axes of the Zodiac

While it’s common practice to look at each of the 12 zodiac signs individually and the wealth of information they can each provide in the natal chart, it is also an invaluable practice to break the 12 zodiac signs down into 6 pairs of opposite signs.
Just as is suggested, opposite signs are in opposition aspect to one another on the zodiac wheel and this means there are many opposing qualities between them. Thus inevitably, the opposing signs are in a continuous dance together, as they try to balance out their opposite qualities like the two ends of a weighing scale or a see-saw.
There is always a bit if a tug-of-war going on between opposing signs, yet still they are also like two sides of the same coin in many ways. Opposite pairs are always either both in feminine signs or masculine signs, never one of each and there is always something very similar that they share. When the lines are physically drawn between them, these are a bit like the spokes of a wheel and each opposition pair is referred to as an axis on the wheel.
The Aries – Libra Axis

Elements: Fire (Aries) and Air (Libra).
Here, the blunt and unfiltered actions of Aries meet the desire to please and harmonise with others in Libra. Aries simply loves to get started while Libra likes to weigh up the pros and cons. The two relate to others differently, as Aries is direct and self-assured, while Libra is vacillating and indecisive.
Both greatly value strong boundaries and stability. They love acquiring what’s valuable to them and can both be possessive. They balance through Aries mindfulness with the here and now while Libra brings out the healer within us.
The Taurus – Scorpio Axis

Elements: Earth (Taurus) and Water (Scorpio).
Here, the desire for physical comforts in Taurus meets a need to share profound emotions in Scorpio. Taurus loves to create a pleasurable environment while Scorpio forms a challenging dynamic. The two access their values differently, as Taurus loves their familiar comfort zone, Scorpio ignites change and transformation.

Both address aspects of survival and family safety, one by earning money and the other through nurture. They love to be at the centre of all that’s crucial. They balance as Capricorn teaches independence while Cancer promotes emotional health and wellness.
The Leo – Aquarius Axis

Here, the desire to win and be seen in Leo meets the desire for autonomy and freedom in Aquarius. Leo likes to connect while Aquarius finds comfort in going it alone. The two act differently when under pressure, as Leo can become reactive while Aquarius will detach and hide away.
Both are social as they shine within groups while sharing an eagerness to collaborate amongst friends and the community. They love to bring people together. They balance as Leo creates artistically while Aquarius shares all with the world via technology and communication.
The Virgo – Pisces Axis

Here, the desire to serve physically in Virgo meets the desire to dream and drift in Pisces. Virgo likes to organise things while Pisces finds comfort when lost in idealism and imagination. The two act differently when helping others, as Virgo can become highly critical while Pisces will empathise and soothe.
Both are dedicated to serving as they can see the pains of those around us while wanting to help. They simply love to give and are very much like the glue of society that helps bond people together. They balance as Virgo delivers a diagnosis while Pisces heals wounds.
