August’s Full Moon in Aquarius and What it Means

Edited by Gemma

The Anaretic Degree

There will be a Full Moon this week on Sunday on the 22nd of August. This Full Moon will occur at the very last degree of Aquarius, which is also known as the ‘anaretic’ degree in astrology. This is because the 29° point of any sign is an anaretic degree and is known to be just in the process of leaving that sign while getting ready to move into the next, at which moment it will reach 00° of the following zodiac sign. (the critical degree for the next one).

There can be a strong sense of urgency and ‘last chances’ associated with planets at this degree and this can easily apply to any type of relationship, both family oriented or romantic. It is in fact just as likely to show up in any emotional connection we have, with this being the Full Moon, involving the Moon and the Sun. The anaretic degree is really the 30th degree, because the degree at 00° is the first. It’s planet or body positioned anywhere including and between 29°00’00” and 29°59’59”.

The Moon-Jupiter Conjunction

The closest aspect to the full moon will be the Jupiter conjunct Moon aspect. This will be sepa-rating due to Jupiter's retrograde, but with an orb of only 2°43’, the effects are likely to be quite potent. On the 9th of August, the day after this month’s New Moon in Leo, the Moon opposed Jupiter and I remember writing back then how this might've meant we were feeling our emo-tions in excess with a strong desire to break free. Fast forward to the Full Moon on Sunday and it really seems the relationship between Jupiter and the Moon this month holds a key part in the story of this month's lunar cycle. Perhaps emotions will still be heightened as might be our desire to flee general constraints and responsibilities, yet the Full Moon period might converse-ly provide us with a release valve for these energies of some sort. Firstly, it will be the conjunc-tion rather than the opposition and secondly, this is what the Full Moon is all about; releasing and purging, whilst reaping all that has been sown over these past few weeks.

There’s a Nodal Kite Pattern!

The second thing that stands out to me about the coming Full Moon, is the very neat kite pat-tern in the chart, which will be comprised of the Moon’s North Node at 07°00' Gemini, Venus at 07°26' Libra, Saturn at 08°43' Aquarius and the Moon’s South Node at 07°00' Sagittarius. The fo-cal point of this kite pattern is the South Node in Sagittarius and this is ruled by Jupiter, so this further calls Jupiter's role into this lunar cycle and his energetic vibrations around the time of the Full Moon. When we look at the South Node, we often think about the past along with some of the lessons we have learned and the struggles we have overcome. With the South Node as a focal point during the Full Moon, we are being given second opportunities to learn lessons of the past we have missed.

Responsibility and Compassion

With Saturn being a part of this kite pattern with Venus and the North Node, we will be asked to evaluate our personal responsibilities, how our values and beliefs affect others and whether we truly have enough love, compassion and empathy to carry us forwards collectively on our paths. By collectively, I mean not just alone, but with our families, our groups or as a society. This Full Moon will occur along the Aquarius/ Leo axis, just as did our last Full Moon on the 24th of July (only that time hit the early degrees of the two signs). Therefore, remember that the fo-cus can be very much on our collective values, society and our social personas and our individ-ualities within our communities are highlighted.

The Energetic Flow of the Moon

The Moon will be disposed to Uranus along with Jupiter and Uranus will trine Mercury in Virgo, so relating to our higher selves in the most practical ways possible are key to our ongoing jour-neys. Uranus will be in an almost exact trine to Mars and this will support our proactive mo-mentum towards our goals. What physical changes can we make to honour both our own free-doms and those of others? Which personal responsibilities can we face that will help not only ourselves grow, but the people around us?

5 Planets Will be in Domicile

The 5 planets that will be in domicile during the Full Moon will be the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Neptune. This is half of all the planets and is quite a positive occurrence. Each of these planets will have the freedom to perform at its best, productively and at a high vibra-tional frequency. This is because when a planet is in domicile, it expresses itself through a me-dium that works with it in such a way that the planet is provided a perfect platform to sing and dance its very own light. It has less of a tendency to meet obstacles and restrictions by other-wise having to express itself through a sign that is dissimilar to or opposite in meaning or ener-getic frequency. This ultimately means the planets can be more supportive for us while working towards our goals.
