SATURNIAN CO-DOMINANT

The Saturnian is traditionally the melancholic par excellence, the one in whom black bile is prevalent, according to the ancients. Actually, the Saturnian’s introverted and rigorous nature is not necessarily sad, it may also just be serene, certainly devoid of Solar enthusiasm, but not for this reason unhappy. The Saturnian is not devoted to sadness, but to sacrifice, which is not the same thing. Of course, they won’t laugh out loud in a group of people, they prefer English humour to bar jokes, and they are tough when discussing matters of principle. They generally look classy and intellectual, have an intense gaze, tend to be thin and a little round-shouldered. President Lincoln, who was Aquarius and an authentic Saturnian, had all these characteristics. He took the weight of a war of liberation and of the most important office in the world political scene upon himself, because this is what the Saturnians do: they take on responsibilities.
They are ambitious, reliable, methodical, ready to give up a normal life, with its comforts, just to climb up to the top. In fact, it is only from above that they are able to look at existence and understand themselves, in that rarefied distance that separates them from the world and others. Withdrawn into their theories, decisions, perspectives, ready to pursue very high goals through very hard paths of dedication, they can sometimes feel discouraged and depressed, because they feel alone with the weight of the world on their shoulders. The behavioural coldness and the iron logic that characterize their smart and philosophical minds, in these cases, fail to protect them from their own arguments, so stubbornly realistic that they cannot hide any uncomfortable truth. They are often obsessed with the truth: it embodies that collective ethical value to be pursued by any means in order to free the individual from oneself, because the Solar Ego is for the Saturnian the worst of prisons. The vision from above is not the vision of the Self, but that of a hypothetical god and this is what they want to achieve.

In the distorted types of Saturnians like Hitler, we arrive at the paradox of replacing God himself, with the extreme consequences resulting from that. Saturnian distortions can be much worse than Solar or Jupiterian ones, for example, because they lead to ruthlessness and cruelty, since the Saturnian lacks empathy. They can feel pity for someone by virtue of the reasonable recognition of a violated right or a fundamental need that is denied, but they will hardly feel what can be defined as compassion. Of course, this does not necessarily make them cold calculating individuals, but they just protect themselves from emotions, because otherwise, they could not accomplish their important tasks. The famous Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher was Saturnian, and she certainly could not allow herself to be emotional and anxious in Downing Street, as partially Saturnian was the two-time Nobel Prize winner Marie Curie, whose life was totally devoted to study and research. The Saturnian can often have a flair for politics or be a science genius.

THE SATURNIAN AND LOVE

Love is perhaps the sore point of a Saturnian’s life. Of course, they have drives and are not totally ascetic, but sometimes their goals are so ambitious that they don’t seem to care about anything else. The point is that their heart is in a protective shell, not so willing to offer or receive emotions. They are not passionate people, their extreme clear-headedness cannot coexist with instincts, as for the Plutonian; The Saturnian does not even know what instinct is. They tend to control everything, including their own reactions and other people’s as well. You will hardly see them getting drunk or cracking up laughing. They will always look a bit sad, which can be fascinating because it hints at a difficult world, however perfectly organized, they carry inside. They feel defeated in front of love films or romantic narrations, because they just can’t understand. And explaining to them that in these matters there is nothing to understand can be a real challenge. However, whether they are men or women, they can give in to the charm of real, authentic smartness. If you want to get to their heart, you have to first pass through their head, an idea that refers to the saturnian goddess Athena who was born from Zeus’s head. If you want to win them over, show them that you have plans and ambitions: they need to think highly of you in order to love you.

Their love will be concrete and proactive, and sex will never be, for them, the gauge of their relationship. They will want to protect you and in hard times they will be willing to sacrifice themselves to give you a helping hand, because you are now their responsibility. As long as there is dialogue and mutual consideration, things will work perfectly, but if mental chemistry begins to lack, everything else will fall apart. They may leave you very coldly, even after many years of love, and you will wonder how you could love such a mean person for so long. If you are the one to leave them, they will accept the beating with their seraphic wisdom, telling you that they expected it, even if it is not true.

THE SATURNIANS AND THE OTHER PLANETARY DOMINANT TYPES

They can appreciate the Solarians for their ambitions and accomplishments, but that’s all, because they consider them too self-referential. They think even worse of the Martians: primitive beings whose enthusiasm, passionate impulses and need to compete at all cost are totally incomprehensible to them. Great understanding with the Mercurians, though, who satisfy their desire for a constant dialectic exchange and who even manage to cheer them up with smart humour. They do not escape the charismatic Plutonian charm, and, together, the two can pursue ambitious goals. They feel a bit uncomfortable with the Lunarians and Neptunians, who are seen as alien entities who are a bit of wishy-washy crybabies, while with the Venusians they can share good manners, the sense of beauty, the taste for philosophical aesthetics and for the form of things. The Jupiterians are considered rather superficial, epicureans with whom stoics like them do not have much to do. Saturnians and Uranians can fit together well, also because neither of them is influenced by emotions: one is just more scientific and the other more technological, which makes them complementary.
