Saturn: Lord of Karma – 2 part

Edited by Paolo Crimaldi

In karmic astrology, as stated in the previous article, Saturn has a remarkable value, since it is the planet that more than any other puts one into contact with those experiences that in one way or another are connected to the experience of the pain, of growth, of existential loneliness and all that aspects of life which are always need to be faced, but always a possible occasion to be uprooted by old attitudes acquired during the past existence.

Naturally to have an occasion does not mean necessarily having to try it, since there are some persons, as for example those who have a narcissist personality, who escapes the experience of facing their nuclei that is more painful, risky, difficult to manage and accept, in other words what is referred to as darkness

During our existence there are periods in which all of us are forced in one way or another to face our darkness, but it is not necessarily the case that therefore we are able to do it with success; much depends on our way of facing life, with all that we are ready to put into it, to accept that we are not as we think, and to make us face the responsibility for the errors committed in the past (in this one as in the past existence), trying to modify part of our attitudes, even if the price this planet asks for is never low. But since it is by now well-known that what Saturn takes it then gives back over time with a lot of interest, naturally as long as one has worked in a mature and serious way.

Moreover, Saturn has two key words, which it shares with Chiron, which are sacrifice and desire. Both planets teach that the first step towards full realisation is through the ethics of sacrifice, which is not to be interpreted as Catholic morals, but as the ability to abandon everything that is superfluous and vain in life in order to reach a goal. To learn to leave schemes, habits, repetitive mistakes is never easy, even if there are sources of pain because, in one way or another they always represent, a certitude to which we have clung. Both Saturn and Chiron urge us instead to dissolve these pathological chains that regard the past, and they teach that sacrifice is an act of will that leads to liberation and to the full maturation of what we have inside.

Clearly the modalities will be different, since Saturn often uses coercion, or rather makes us feel obliged to accept that path and to abandon everything we previously had, also because often it manages to take certitude away in a short period of time, while Chiron is less rigid and it tends to put our own certitude into question in terms of the abandonment of the schemes that obstruct the free development of our existential missions.
If Saturn obliges, Chiron advises, but often it is only by the concerted action of both of them that it is possible to develop an upwards evolutive path, which through the sacrifice of parts of if, therefore leads us to attaining one of the numerous end goals that we have decided to realise in this existence.

But all can happen only through desire. In fact wanting it is an indispensable condition for growth and personal achievement, since where there is no desire things do not happen.
Saturn brings us to desiring things in a practical, adult way, which is also quite considered, always in line with our capabilities, helping to keep our feet firmly on the ground, while Chiron is less rigid and brings us to want things in a little more utopian, metaphysical, way, perhaps even allowing dreams which at first glance can seem vain and unrealizable. It is better, however not to think that it could regard illusions, but simply it helps in keeping things on the up, to better support our self-esteem, and then to open a passage in the future in more variegated and wide way.

In the next article we will see how the Saturn cycle starts a series of very important psychological processes that are often in strict contact with the experience we have accumulated, and momentarily removed from our unconscious, since they regard our previous lives.
