The Astrology of September 2022

September is often a busy month, with the children going back to school after the holidays and many of us returning to college or university. This is so fitting for Virgos because they like to keep busy themselves and have a natural affinity with schoolwork and studies. It’s also known to be the busiest month in the maternity ward every year (I heard about this first-hand from the midwives during my daughter’s birth). This does make me wonder if there are more Virgos in the world than any other sign.

To start the month of September Venus will enter into the sign of Virgo on the 5th and then Mercury will station to turn retrograde on the 10th. We will then have the Full Moon in Pisces on the same day, the 10th of September, followed by the Sun’s entrance into Libra almost two weeks later on the 23rd. Mercury will then retrograde back into Virgo, also on the 23rd and there will be a New Moon in Libra on the 25th. Finally, Venus will enter Libra as Ceres enters Virgo on the same day, the 29th of September.

The 5th of September: Venus enters Virgo

As Venus enters Virgo, she’ll be in fall so may not be comfortable expressing her natural energies, such as unconditional love, true romance and artistic intuition. However this could be a rewarding time for us as love is likely to be expressed in patience and gratitude. Virgo is also a healing sign, which encourages us to tap into the great listeners we can be.

The 10th of September: Mercury turns Retrograde

Mercury turns retrograde on the 10th of September, remaining retrograde for the rest of the month until the 2nd of October. During this time, communications can become somewhat more unpredictable and misunderstandings can often arise due to media difficulties or differences in conversation styles. Mercury governs technology too so anything electronic or scientific can malfunction while progress via email or anything relying on software can be delayed. My advice is be careful and ensure plenty of extra time for potential delays.

The 10th of September: The Full Moon in Pisces

The Full Moon at 17°41’ Pisces will sextile Uranus and the North Node as the Sun trines these two, bringing Uranus into focus yet again. As the God of the sky and heavens in Greek mythology, Uranus plays a significant role in our experience of freedom and in the importance of our own individuality. Here, our uniqueness and ability to express our true nature in honesty becomes prioritised over all that is traditional and the comforts of familiarity. However, as Uranus is in fall in Taurus, disruptions may be fewer and the Moon in Pisces will bring love and compassion with all the inevitable changes.

The 23rd of September: The Sun enters Libra

It will finally be Libra season on the 23rd of September and on the same day the autumnal equinox will fall (see what I did there?), marking the official beginning of autumn. This is a favourite season of many and for good reason; the way the falling sunlight dims to a beautiful afternoon-like glow, made golden by the reflection of a beautiful blanket of crispy leaves teases an exhilarating lift in mood for only one quarter of the year annually. Concurrently, we’re met with the peacefully balanced atmosphere gifted to us by the sign of Libra. Oh, and it’s also redhead appreciation day, which is likely by no coincidence landing on the first day of autumn.

The 23rd of September: Mercury retrograde enters Virgo

Mercury’s retrograde will enter into Virgo on this day, so whilst we are still in ‘take care’ territory as far as our planet of technology and communications is concerned, we will now at least be moving on with Mercury back in his domicile for a while. Mercury in Virgo whilst retrograde may be somewhat pernickety, critical or detail-oriented to a fault. There’s also more of a chance the details that go awry in our day-to-day technology are tiny details we may need to find with a toothpick.

The 25th of September: New Moon in Libra

The New Moon on the 25th of September will occur at 02°48’ of the Libra, in an out-of-sign conjunction with both Venus and Mercury in Virgo. With Venus also opposing her higher octave of Neptune, this means that there should really be an element of peace and stability at this time. Research and cerebral energy are still heightened with Mars in Gemini, who will be in a lovely trine with Saturn, ensuring hard work pays off, despite Mercury’s retrograde.

The 29th of September: Venus enters Libra and Ceres enters Virgo

On the same day as Venus enters Libra, Ceres will make her exchange from Libra into Virgo. Here, Venus will move into domicile whilst Ceres will move into the sign she most associates with, both her and Virgo being about fertility, growth and nutrition. This looks to be a wonderful pair of ingresses to end the month on that should be met with a warm glow and heart-full presence around us. It’s also a great day to start an art project or snuggle up with your loved ones on the sofa.
