As we approach that time on our lives we all often refer to as middle-aged, it is no secret that many, if not all, of us will at some point go through our mid-life crisis. Psychologists agree that this time period in our lives is characterised with a sudden urge to break free from life’s existing constraints, in order to grow in ways we suddenly realise we have yet to grow. We may no longer feel young, while we are not quite ready to age yet either, causing something of a sense of existential crisis. Our mid-life usually peaks between the age of around 34 until the age of about 43 (give or take a few years as we are all unique). This is a time that can really throw us off balance as it can be extremely confusing and daunting. We may also begin to feel like we are no longer aligned with our existing responsibilities or the ways we have approached and perceived our lives up until this point. This may be the start of some radical changes due to these experiences. That being said, this major period in our lives is a crisis point that really does mark the beginning of the rest of our lives. Our relationships transform along with our own realities and often even aspects of our personalities and belief systems. Let’s hope we can meet these challenges and hence pass over to the other side of these transits with a new-found sense of renewal and freedom. Here you will find a couple of paragraphs on each of the four mid-life crisis transits containing what each of these mean. The Pluto Square Our Pluto square occurs between the ages of around 37 and 39 and usually lasts around two years. We are often met with psychological power struggles with other people in our lives at this time, which may at times seem ‘petty’ from an outside perspective. However, they are not petty but are rather a way the universe teaches us to change our approach to relationships in order to allow them to reach a higher level of authenticity. Long-hidden psychological or emotional truths that have tended to go unnoticed often come to our attention. We’re consequently tested with themes that relate to our own personal power, other people’s power and perhaps even control and manipulation so that we can make necessary changes to ourselves at a core level. It’s not a good idea to fight against these energies during this time. The Neptune Square We have our Neptune square between approximately 39 and 42 years of age, also lasting around two years. This time, our sensitivity in general to the world around us is often greatly heightened to the point we are feeling much more emotional, compassionate and possibly even psychic. Supernatural phenomena or experiences in our lives may increase, causing us to feel urged to ‘go with the flow’ of life or escape into fiction, mind-altering substances, art or meditation. We may begin to desire many changes to our lives, albeit not necessarily all that consciously, as we may fall upon increased opportunities for change as if by accident. Perhaps this is our soul calling for these changes from dee within. We desire greater depth and authenticity in all our dealings, projects and relationships and we may be prone to sharing epiphanies and telepathic connections with others. In a worst case scenario this transit can cause us confusion and a bring us a sense of feeling lost. Our Uranus Opposition Occurring between the ages of about 42 and 44, our Uranus opposition is a transit in which we may experience increased anxiety or an unbridled sense that we are ‘free-wheeling’ our way through life. Some of us may also feel exhilarated, as we experience major urges to break away from any constraints in our life that are no longer serving us or are making us feel as though we are tied down. Changes as a result of the Uranus opposition often inspire necessary growth as a result of unexpected shifts or disruptions in our lives that are unwelcomed by us, also. This especially happens when we are too scared to make necessary changes to any old or outworn structures in our lives. Uranus transits can therefore sometimes attract events that bring about these changes for us. Our Saturn Opposition Our Saturn opposition happens at around 44 to 45. This transit marks a time when we could potentially reach a peak in which we reap the fruits of success due to many years of ambition and hard work, because Saturn has a tendency to reward long-term efforts with a material outcome that is due. Another possible manifestation of this transit is an increase in responsibilities that have accumulated and come back around due to an avoidance of these in the past. There will most likely always be an increase in responsibilities at this time, it is just a matter of whether these are new ones that coincide with rewards or that are seemingly without return. In the latter case, the chances to mature that were offered 7 years ago during the Saturn square and/ or 14 years ago during the Saturn return are being revisited.
