The Astrology Transits of Mid-life Crisis |

From our mid-thirties to our early forties life can be frustrating, confusing and daunting. We may no longer fit a criteria as being ‘young’, yet we may not yet feel quite ready to age and, while we may have lived our lives with a certain gusto up until this point, we may now begin to see the second half of our lives from a much more close-up perspective. This anticipation can precede over the feeling that we are still in the first half of our lives and we may start to realise how precious time is while wondering whether we have yet to realise our life purpose and our goals. Astrologically, there are four major transits that we all experience between our mid-thirties to our early forties. Each of these characterise a distinctly different stage during this period of our lives. These are: 1) The Pluto square natal Pluto transit or ‘the Pluto square’. (~ 37 to 39) 2) The Neptune square natal Neptune transit or ‘the Neptune square’. (~ 39 to 42) 3) The Uranus opposite natal Uranus transit or the ‘Uranus opposition’. (~ 42 to 44) 4) The Saturn opposite natal Saturn transit or the ‘Saturn opposition’. (~ 44 to 45) Collectively, these transits are characterised by huge changes in life, while the effects of them can create a major shift within our reality. The effects can be so great, that by the time we reach our mid-forties, we have changed so much that even the people around us can notice the difference. Furthermore, our relationships with others can transform while even our perceptions of the world around us may shift quite dramatically by the time they’re over. Let’s take a look at each of these transits in more detail and what they can mean for us at a personal level. The Pluto Square - 37 to 39 When we experience Pluto transits, the energies of Pluto enter our lives, usually with good reason and there are valuable lessons on offer. Pluto’s energy is here either because we can benefit from integrating more of this into our character or because we need to do the opposite and realise how we’re enacting Pluto in a way that is harmful for ourselves and others. Pluto transits can bring to the surface many psychological and emotional truths that have been playing out in our lives yet have so far gone unnoticed or been avoided. These cannot be avoided under the Pluto transit. Often, themes will unfold relating to domination, manipulation or will power and we’re being tested to either build up our strength to create boundaries within unhealthy relationships or to re-evaluate our own behaviours towards others and whether they’re for everyone’s highest good. The Neptune Square - 39 to 42 During Neptune transits, some typical occurrences are we can start to feel our usual emotions in such a heightened way that the same daily things that bothered us previously can become almost unbearable. We may find ourselves dealing with this by escaping more often, either into our dreams and fantasy worlds or by altering our states of perception in ways that are less healthy or appropriate. Our spiritual consciousness can increase and we may desire deep changes in our life, yet this isn’t a good time to make any big decisions, as many insights e receive during this time may not be entirely real. It’s best to wait this transit out to see how we feel once it’s over. Another typical state of being is confusion, so it helps to be kind to ourselves while trying not to create any habits that are too bad for our health. The Uranus Opposition - 42 to 44 This transit may either feel freeing and exhilarating or it can bring about greater fear and anxiety. Either way, what transpires during our Uranus square transit is often a series of unexpected events that have a tendency to catch us off guard. Uranus can also bring many new opportunities that open doors for us in life, catalysing some much needed positive growth. If changes are required yet we are too scared to make them, Uranus transits can appear as external events that bring about those changes for us. Otherwise, we may experience some sudden urges to create change disruptively, even if it is out of our usual character. The Saturn Opposition - 44 to 45 Our Saturn opposition transit is a time during which we may encounter a period of peak success or we may experience difficulties that appear as blockages to our goals that are very trying. What happens depends on whether we are currently in situations (our job or a relationship) that are right for us or not. If we are, a period of greater success is likely whereas if we are not, we may be in for a tough ride. 14 years ago prior our Saturn return came (28 to 30), as we were starting out on new cycles of growth. 7 years ago these journeys will have been tested in strength. If we realised changes that needed to be made then yet failed to make them, this transit will likely be tough and is our next chance to do so. However, if we stepped up, this is likely to be very rewarding.
