Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck dated from 2002 to 2004, each going their separate ways and soon moving on to marry other stars and have children.

Now, fast forward to April 2021 and they are reportedly back together, having jetted off to Montana on a week-long vacation.

Their Synastry Overlay

Although initially engaged in 2002, Jennifer recalled the media’s obsession with their relationship and how this created a toll on their relationship. She recalls, ‘he's a great guy, but it was a lot for both of us to be under that type of siege for two years straight’. Here, we can perhaps see their Venus/ Saturn conjunction at play and how the media may have created a huge sense of responsibility between them, which was ultimately damaging. They announced they were postponing their wedding just two days before the date, due to excessive media attention. Venus represents the media while Saturn restrictive influences.

Venus conjunct Saturn

Jennifer’s Venus closely conjoins Ben’s Saturn in his 12th house, which is often a great aspect for the longevity of a relationship. This means that they may naturally have a sense of responsibility towards one another within the constructs of the love relationship, which may improve over time. However, it’s true that the conjunction is a hard aspect and can feel difficult or even stifling for some. However, this being in Ben’s twelfth house may help to soften the harshness of Saturn a little at times, while his Uranus trine to the aspect might add some excitement and creativity there.

Mars conjunct Neptune

Jennifer’s Mars very closely conjoins Ben’s Neptune, which may mean that the experience of being with him could have a way of dissolving her sense of power and identity, which might prove to be difficult for her. Her Mars may then activate his Neptune, bringing him into a state of confusion about her impulses and actions relating to this. Jennifer has reported that her relationship with Affleck was very ‘overwhelming and scary because it took place during the tabloid era.’

Venus/ Chiron Contacts

They have Venus/ Chiron contacts both ways in their synastry overlays. Ben’s Venus squares Jennifer’s Chiron while Jennifer’s Venus forms a sextile to Ben’s Chiron. These can be lovely aspects that typically mean the relationship is able to be a naturally healing experience for them both. Their love styles towards each other may simply be able to help heal the deepest of wounds from one another’s pasts. They may do this just by being there for one another and in the way they show their kindness and affections.

Ben and Jennifer’s Transits

Pluto conjunct Ben’s North Node

The first thing that stands out to me is transiting Pluto in conjunction with Ben’s North Node in Capricorn. This is an important time for his progression at a soul level, while he experiences major shifts and changes within his seventh house of one-to-one relationships. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the very planet that seemed to be a source of problems and restrictions during their relationship back in the early 00s. These changes and renewals are a chance for him to revisit deep and unhealed wounds from the past, much to the nature of Pluto transits.

Neptune entered Ben’s 10th House, while conjoining Jennifer’s North Node

Neptune, a planet that can add confusion to a relationship if in hard aspect is now playing a significant role in both their respective charts via transit. For Ben, he may either revisit a sense of confusion as it moves through his angular house of prominence and public image, or following some emotional growth and maturity, this could mean that the union is a positive, spiritual experience for him.

Jennifer is now meeting a wonderful opportunity for growth while revisiting her feelings of powerlessness of the past. She now says, ‘you just have to live your life and this is what I’ve learned over the years. This is why it’s great to be where I am now, and at the age, I am now, because that stuff doesn’t bother me any more’.

So, perhaps after some maturity and life experience Saturn’s energies may be more welcomed by them while their identities have strengthened so that they are now ready to release control and enjoy the spiritual, other-worldly experiences within a union that Neptune can bring. Neptune, after all, is now in domicile in Pisces, increasing the likelihood that this experience may this time prove to be a positive one.

Chiron Returns

Over the next few years, Ben will go through his Chiron return, while Jennifer has recently experienced hers. This means it’s an optimal time for them both to heal deeply from past wounds, especially those associated with love and romance, given their Venus/ Chiron contacts mentioned previously.
It is also interesting to note that between 2002 and 2004, Chiron moved through the majority of Capricorn, forming stressful square aspects to Chiron in both of their natal charts. Are they now returning to heal the wounds of those squares?
