The four Elements of the Zodiac

The four elements of the zodiac: the air element, the fire element, the earth element and the water element each represent a fundamental type of energy that acts in each one of us.
Four zodiac elements are present in each individual, even if each one of us is more in syntony with some types of energy rather than with others. It is our natal chart that indicates which energy is more easy to express for us and which is more difficult to integrate.
To know with which type of energy we are more in contact and with which less is calculated in proportion to each element still present in our natal chart. The lack of an element does not mean that we lack such an energy, but that it is not available at a conscious level and it will tend to act in unconscious way. An imbalance in the distribution of the elements determines a corresponding imbalance in an individual’s personality.
The four elements of the zodiac are traditionally divided into two groups: the Fire element and the air element are considered male and active, in all that energies that lead the individual to act and to establish social relations and thus extroversion, while the element Holds and the element Waters that they are female and passive, in all that energies that they lead the individual to structure, delimit and to communicate with the own inner world and then the introversion. The active elements are similar to each other, since both their energies move in the same direction and this is so with the passive elements. Therefore between the air and the fire element is a reciprocal exchange, and the same for the earth and water element.
ELEMENT AIR - THOUGHT
Air creates space, creating perspective and helping to view things rationally and objectively, and an "airy" type like you has the ability to observe, judge, and sometimes live in a detached way, which could put other signs out of balance. You attempt to put the world of feelings and emotion into a kind of algebraic formula where the unknown is always found, but when, inexplicably, the formula does not work, you become bewildered and confused and start to search frantically for another more complex formula.
Air cannot be held in the hand but you feel it on your skin and in your hair. You cannot see it but without it you will suffocate. Think about the rhythm of breathing as air enters and leaves the lungs; nothing is less tangible or more vital. It is the first and the last manifestation of life. It is light and impalpable but without it and the air of the spirit we return to dust. It maintains us throughout generations as we embark on the road we have chosen.

ELEMENT FIRE - INTUITION
Forget what you know and who you are and you become simply yourself; the fire that burns and changes. The fire that is life, energy in a pure state that you can neither see nor hear, but only live. Fire is the energy that burns inside you and puts in motion the world and which way it moves, sentiments that become passions and thoughts that become intuitions or creations. It is the fire that burns in the belly of the land, and mixed with the primordial liquid and water, ferments into the incandescent magma of uncontrollable and primitive passions that only Pluto and Lucifer can govern. It is also the flame that lights and heats up the domestic hearth and is perennially watched over by the vestal virgins and their symbol of purity. Fire is movement. There is no such thing as a still flame. Fire was stolen by Prometheus and given as his gift to man. Heraclitus tells us that Prometheus, the one who knew it in advance, gave to man this spark of knowledge and transformed him from a defenceless and unintelligent creature into the master of his own mind. When one is born in a fire sign or there are many planets in fire signs, there is a strong need to have an expansive life and to go forward to the future, the time of infinite promises. The prison of conditioning and the demands of the material world are not for those born in fire signs and they travel their own road with an unknowing and happy irresponsibility. There is an intuitive perception towards life that, although sometimes contrary to evidence, proves true. The perception shared by those belonging to fire signs, is that in the end everything will work out for the better. Trust, optimism, vitality; these are the key words. When they live true to their nature, the fire signs always have a project or a dream to be pursued and for them this is more important than a business deadline or the health of a child.

ELEMENT: EARTH SENSATION
When born in an earth sign, as you are or when there are many planets in earth signs, we see a need to build and to achieve concrete results. The reality of the material world is full of secrets for you. You know how to travel in the world properly and how to meet the needs of your body. You are patient, prudent and thoughtful and your real strength is factual knowledge, not intuition or imagination. Your feet are firmly on the ground.
What follows is a brief description of Earth but there is more and it is difficult to relate, so lie yourself down in a meadow and open your senses, smell the hay or grass and listen to the noise of the leaves blowing in the wind. Touch the earth, solid and firm in the palm of your hand, crushed and crumbling between your fingers. Look at the life forms visible in the grass, the small insects carrying weights, flowers that open and close and turning their petals to the sun. Look at the apparent solidity and immobility of the earth. From earth comes everyone’s life, birth, growth, death and then we begin again.

ELEMENT: WATER - FEELING
Above all, you are in touch with your feelings concealing a world of deep emotions, irrational fears, irrepressible desires and extreme sensitivity. The calm and reserve you display outwardly are a mask that hides the storms that rage inside you. Water is devoid of shape and needs to be contained, channelled and it is the Earth signs, stable, safe and well-defined who have the capacity to absorb and calm your storm. When the earth absorbs the water, the new mixture has a malleable and ductile form, which is both safe and secure.
If you really want to understand water, lie down on the sofa, make yourself comfortable, close your eyes and let yourself go. When your mind is free and easy in a state of drowsiness, allow the water to enter your mind and let it surround you as you listen to it. You will find the water cool and refreshing, like springs in the mountains, quenching the thirst and refreshing you. Also think about the water fountain of life and knowledge that many heroes in the fables drank from, or the impenetrable and sparkling lake of Narcissus reflecting only his image; the mysterious waters in the abysses of the sea which are governed by Neptune; the water that sanctifies the baptism and the water that sings and enchants with the voice of Ulysses’ sirens. Think about the soft water droplets that can wear away rock, and remember that everything inside you is water. Now you understand the things of which the astrologers speak.
