To begin to understand Astrology

In order to begin to understand Astrology it is necessary to leave the rational part that our conscience is used to and to try to enter the topic free from prejudices in the world of mythical conscience.
The elements, the signs, each symbol of astrological wording, is created within the bounds of the world: the elements are the simple and primordial substances with whose mixture the multiform variedness of the world of experience is derived; the planets, which eternally move in the chart with perfect orbits, have the name of and participate intimately in their nature and meaning; each thing, each symbol in astrology speaks the language of a myth, which is not the language of reason.
“But - you are probably asking yourselves - the mythology or astrology, perhaps the fables of ancient people, the infantile and irrational manifestations of the spirit of man’s origins? What meaning, value or function such a language have in the present day?”
Exactly in the same as yesterday, because a myth expresses an original tendency of the human spirit, an autonomous faculty and creator of the conscience, which necessarily keeps on producing, always in different forms, the myths own time and place. In mythology as in astrology an immutable vocation is expressed by an order, the inextinguishable demand of a “purpose“, the persistent wish of a world lighted by the "sense", naturally inherent in the human conscience. However much the products of the mythical conscience can seem faraway and diverged, behind them there is always this search for order, of “principles“ or first causes, to which everything relates back. Thus, in the vision of the world of classic astrology, each existence is inserted into a common spatial order, and each event in a common temporal order.
To the explanation of the world in the terms of physical and mathematic laws produced by the knowledge of reason, it stands beside them, since man is not only reason, the explanation existentially so to say about the meaning, about the sense of ’” being like that” of the Universe and of mankind, dates from the mythology or astrology.
Today more than never, this process of the search for basics, of sense and values is necessary and vital: in fact, the raising of the conscience and of the world made by scientific and technical progress has left a huge existential gap, which the myth of scientific and technical progress alone does not manage to fill.
Also modern man, the man of the time of t science and technique has asked himself again "why", to ask what is the sense of life, the meaning of the adventure of life, of human destiny; questions inherent in themes that do not coincide simply with the world of causes investigated by reason, but which go further.
If the mythical vocation of modern man is equal in its requests to those of the ancients, of the way in which it is expressed will still be forcedly different and more complex..
This change is clearly testified by modern or humanistic astrology, which is no longer focused on an event like the past, but on the person. For us, humanistic astrology is, in the present day, a powerful tool of self-knowledge and personal evolution, able to put us in contact with the most hidden and profound parts of our nature and of accompanying us in the difficult task of making "sense" to our existence. The validity of astrological affirmations is not in their objective truth, to be demonstrated according to the criteria of rational knowledge, demonstrations that are completely insignificant in field of astrology or myths, but their value is in the intimate and profound resonance that they produce in us, in their ability of evoking images to us, intuitions that immediately clarify our intimate and profound essence, which is so often difficult to discover because it is wrapped and confused in the fog of needs, desires and values that are socially accepted, but that at times nothing to do with what we really are.
In our way of practicing astrology you will therefore find many references to images, myths and universal symbols, which at the same time are evocative of something of absolutely individual to each one of us, and this is why it is only through such symbols and images that it is possible to enter into contact with astrology in a real and direct way..
In fact, since it is not possible to translate the language of art in a mathematic language, so it is not possible, if we want to start understanding astrology, to transform the language composed of symbols and images into a language of simple concepts that only ignores them and makes them empty. The wheel of the zodiac, the signs that have the name of the stars, the elements without which there is no life, the planets that have the names of gods, in the same way in myths or poetry, , toned to be listened to before trying to interpret them or explain them, so that each one of them is allowed to explain its own sense.
Our own birth chart is thus the personal myth of each one of us.
