Saturn: Lord of Karma – 3 part

Edited by Paolo Crimaldi

The Saturn cycle lasts about 29 years, or the time that it takes to return to its natal position, therefore about every 7 years Saturn forms a dissonant aspect, which in karmic, evolutive and psychological astrology has a remarkable value, since it coincides with those periods of crises that are particularly vital to our growth and to the overcoming of all resistance of a karmic type that we have from preceding incarnations.

The first significant aspect of the cycle is the growing square, which forms approximately after seven years after it has been in its natal position (for example in the age of 7, 35, 63 years about) and is generally tied to the first great consciousness, at times painful, which regards several phases of our lives. In particular, it can be a question of the ability of being aware that it is no longer possible to count on the unconditioned support of those close to us, or that a part of our past that is by now completely useless to our life, but to leave it suffering because it has settled like an atavistic habit that requires a big effort, and at times in one way or another seems to give so much certainty. Clearly it is about a fictitious certainty, which comes to light in all its frivolity, and at times this can create true emotional shocks, a kind of frustration because we feel angry about the past, what has already been, and what prevented us from seeing and doing things that were important for our development.
For many people it can be a moment of great mental clarity that can also be used to cut bridges with the past and to explore that karmic inheritance that exerts influence and conditions, so it can happen that some people instead try experiences that can lead them to be put in contact with past events, and thus give them the possibility of overcoming them and to no longer be chained or conditioned by them.

The opposition aspect of Saturn to itself happens about 14 years later with the passage over the natal position (at 14, 42, and 77 years of age) and is always characterised by a moment of great questioning, of a period that leads to strike a clear and definite balance of our lives and to make quite radical decisions, in worldly and strictly psychological terms. In fact it can coincide, especially when it happens around the age of 42, with a period in which it will be possible to make a clean cut with all the karmic inheritances, with the influences coming from the past lives, with a definitive acceptance of our own existence, overcoming all the insecurities and binding fears, and thus becoming true protagonists in the second part of our lives, which is therefore the one in which our own path comes truly more dharmic, or rather the reason why we have been born again and why we really chose that body, that family, that determinate place and historical period.

The squaring aspect (at 21, 49, 85 years of age) coincides with a phase in life in which the important partial assessments are made to understand what has changed before joining the natural deadline of the deliveries. In other words it means that for many people there may be the opportunity of new encounters, of undertaking a different religion or life philosophy in order to give their existence more depth and a new, different vitality, even if such changes inevitably involve questioning many values and of some interpersonal relationships, also old ones, which seemed to be pillars of our lives.
it often coincides with the closing of a relationship of a karmic nature, since to the reasons for it are no longer applicable, either because they have been solved, or because by now there is no longer any possibility of seeing them bettered if it has not already happened.

lastly, the Saturn conjunction with itself happens every twenty eight to twenty nine years about and coincides with a moment of total questioning in which it is possible to completely redefine our lives and to guide a new way of facing and of experiencing things.
Generally it almost always coincides with the loss of something that characterised the preceding period (for example around 28 years of age the thoughtlessness and optimism of youth disappears, and at 56 years of age the competitive spirit is abandoned and we looks to our future with less anxiety and worry, etc), but above all it coincides with a moment in which we try to get hold of our life to sort it out, in other words to look to the future, to put it on its path for the next twenty eight years, trying to keep consistent and use our in respect of what direction we will go in (in this case deepened profound analysis of the axis of the lunar node is useful).
In presence of the return of Saturn on itself it is probable that at a karmic level it is possible to see the big tests we will have to face, that can also coincide with very painful moments but at the same time that resolve problems that are not allowing us to live serenely.
