Introduction to Karmic astrology

Ancient oriental culture rests on a psychological structure that has formed in very different way from that of western society. This philosophy has still to a certain point found a way to enter our culture, perhaps because it was responding to the restlessness of a world that had found that in its "reality", in scientific progress and in the cult of its illuminating ways, that nevertheless it was leaving part of the human mind in the dark and in anguish.
Of course, for the western mentality the concepts of reincarnation and Karma tied to previous lives have assumed a meaning which sounds exotically fascinating, that is far away from what these concepts actually mean. To understand these meanings is very difficult for our mentality, and the risk is high of not grasping the real meaning. A lot of effort has been made in this direction in recent years.
A Karmic view of astrology – one of the possible ones – lets us take a particular look inside the game life – enchanting and worth of being lived, by anyone. It tells us that nothing is "by chance" and brings us back to the old concept of the existence of a track our lives tend to follow, which can affect our destiny. We can get an idea – through interpreting the symbols - of the wishes fears, difficulties, and blocks that we will tend to experience and of the path to be followed to free us from the binds that represent the schemes inside which our life develops. The knowledge of these schemes can let us give a sense to the situations in which we live, even if probably this "sense" is often completely misunderstood. And, in any case, the sense has not become attached to any justice concept, and it will never therefore give (according to my point of view) a good reason for why the life of one person seem besieged by tragic events and that one of someone else is full of opportunities and successes.
To know the scheme developed by our past is used for us to simply see it, to show it, and to understand how to conquer a new freedom.
It is not at all obvious what the word freedom means, therefore we should dwell on this. Freedom in this field means to have gone out of the schemes which we find restrictive, to assume a consciousness of our value and our abilities, to become responsible for our life and our decisions, to activate our internal strength to follow paths that different from those that have already been marked out.
If and when this will happen is not written in our natal chart, nevertheless it is a tool of incalculable value to help us down this path. I have strong doubts that this value is in identifying “who we were in the preceding lives”, while I notice continuously how it should represent a map of everything that we have inherited: ourselves through the experiences of the past, our family and our environment, our country and our culture, through the blood and the genii of our parents, from everything that – indifferently - gives us our sense of belonging, together with the best part of our abilities often covered by layers of deposits.
My vision of the meaning of the natal chart might be explained by me in this way: a depiction of a magnetic field activated to our conception, structured during our gestation and fixed at the moment of birth on which energies are activated by an "intelligent" memory that has recorded all the evolutive work already completed in the past in our existence (that we might compare to) – and that knows perfectly well (using superior tools than those of our mind) which are experiences useful to pursue our growth.
The great opportunity of a Karmic interpretation of the natal chart in my opinion relates to the evolutive work that it suggests. There is nothing regarding the idea that we go passively to our destiny, or even of fighting bravely against it …
It would be crazy to think that we are omnipotent, and in fact humility is one of the positive characteristics this work requires: the humility of recognising that the view of a connection between past, present and future is something that we can only learn symbolically, and not in the real and material facts. While it is in the real and material facts that the results of everything that we have perceived becomes visible: filling our life with meaning does not mean it will go more slowly, but our energies will be concentrated more on our development and inner serenity.
Whether we will remain trapped in the schemes from the past is not written in the natal chart ,what is written, however, are the reasons for them, we can understand which unsatisfied needs and which wishes profoundly move us – what energies that have led us to choosing this exact incarnation. To become aware of the past means to take conscience of the reasons for the present, and to have the possibility of doing things chosen by the future that are not completely conditioned by the energy scheme in which we are immersed, which often seems “to pull us” in one direction or another, as part of an infernal plan. And to find our own "centre" is the way to release our Karma.
One of the opportunities we have, after having begun to understand our map, is that of working to transform the symbols. In order to overcome our blocks we will never mean becoming completely different from what we are, but rather to develop a new ability of expressing what we are in a different way, transforming the let’s call it "vibratory" level of the energy contained in a certain aspect. , If, for example our chart has a strong Pluto dominance, we will rather obviously tend to have a compulsive character, to impose ourselves based on power and to be at the centre of potentially destructive control dynamics : one of the possible keys of Pluto transformation will pass through creativity – that will certainly be plentiful but perhaps unknown to the I because it has not been recognised and cultivated in the first phases of life.
But this work on the blocks is a subsequent and different step from that of the work on our consciousness that can be carried out with the help of Karmic astrology; it is work that is somehow or other therapeutic, that can help in recovering from our wounds and in the development of greater free will.
